Update on the February 10th Board of Selectmen meeting

Although the Board of Selectmen decided not to put an override on the ballot for March 30, they left open the possibility of an override later in the Spring.  At Town Meeting in April, a motion can be made to suspend Article 4 (the budget article) and postpone any debate/vote on it until the first week of May.  If that motion passes, residents at Town Meeting will finish the remaining articles on the warrant.  Town Meeting will then reconvene in May on Article 4 only.  The Selectmen expressed their hope that the extra time will allow for more concrete budget numbers, both from the State’s FY10 budget and from collective bargaining with the unions.

When Town Meeting reconvenes in May, anyone on the floor may move to put forth an override budget.  If it passes at Town Meeting, the Selectmen have said they will put an override on the ballot in June by way of a special election.  Only the Selectmen can make the decision to put an override on the ballot.

In anticipation of Town Meeting and a subsequent election, Support Sudbury has formed the Support Sudbury Ballot Question Committee to support a Proposition 2 ½ override to the FY10 budget.
